Racha Yai is a beautiful tropical island with a lot of hard coral reefs and colorful shallow water coral gardens.

It is about 1½ hours south of Phuket.

There are several excellent dive sites particularly suitable for beginners and snorkelers.

Racha Noi, its smaller sister, offers some truly spectacular sites with giant underwater boulders and scenery

comparable to the Similans, where manta rays and whale sharks can often be seen.

Shark Point is one of Phuket's best dive sites, about 1½ hours east of Phuket. This is a marine sanctuary of three

reefs covered with sea anemones, corals, sponges and gorgonian fans. Leopard sharks are often seen resting

on the sand. Sea snakes and giant barracudas are also common, along with an impressive number of moray eels.

Anemone Reef is a completely submerged reef located near Shark Point, covered with sea anemones and other corals.

Harmless leopard sharks can be seen there, along with some huge schools of colourful fishes, tunas, lion fishes and

barracudas.

On May 4th, 1997, King Cruiser, a 85 m long ferry, strayed off course and hit Anemone Reef ripping one of her

twin hulls open and sank soon after.

The wreck contains a huge car deck, a middle deck with salons and dining rooms and a sun deck with a very

interesting captain cabin. Lots of small fishes such as lionfish, cuttlefish and crabs have already made their home

in the wreck. Barracudas and other hunters are also common.

3 hours east of Phuket, the Phi Phi Islands are a famous destination even for divers as well as snorkelers.

As a diver, you will discover that spectacular limestone cliffs above the water become sheer drop-offs and

craggy coral encrusted landscape under the water. A number of caves can be explored as well as a wealth

of underwater life, including lionfish, scorpionfish and different kinds of corals.
